Shaken for Good

When Jesus died on the cross at Calvary, the earth shook in Jerusalem and even more violently in the new world.

Of course it did.

Because what other reaction could there be from the creation in response to the death of its Creator?

The horror and pain must have been intense.

And the very earth trembled at the awfulness.

There is some irony, then, that the Lord promises to ’cause the heavens to shake for [our] good’ (see e.g., D&C 21:6; 35:24.)

But perhaps some of the earth’s shaking was in small part caused by the overflow of the good pouring down from Heaven.

Because that terrible suffering and sacrifice by the Savior of the world was the very thing that would save us.

So while we, with all the heavens, looked down in agony to see our Brother and our God die, at least some of the trembling in which we all must have participated had to have been in awe and rejoicing at the triumph of Jesus Christ.

He had fulfilled His promise!

The Father’s plan was fulfilled!

Eternal and infinite good was shaken from the heavens to fall on all the children of the earth.

And because of that grandest of all goodness, all other good can be ours.

Life and light; grace and glory; truth and assurance and power and hope.

Everlastingly.

The heavens indeed have been shaken for our good.

Hallelujah!
